1884-Sam Wise, shortstop for the Boston Red Stockings struck out 104 times, a record that stood until 1914.
1887-John Morril of the Boston Red Stockings became the first player to strike out 500 times in his career.
1892-Tom Brown, playing with Louisville in the National League, became the first player to strike out 90 or more times two years in a row.
1892-Pud Galvin concluded his career with 630 strikeouts in only 2702 at bats; a pitcher, Galvin sometimes played the outfield between mound assignments and had a .202 average despite the frequency he fanned.
1930-Babe Ruth became the first player to strikeout 1000 times in his career
1932-Bruce Campbell of the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Browns struck out 104 times, the first to top 100 since 1914.
1934-Harlond Clift of the Browns became the first third baseman to strike out 100 or more times in a season.
1935-First baseman Dolph Camilli of the Phillies became the first National Leaguer since 1884 to strike out 100 times in a season.
1937-Frank Crosetti of the Yankees became the first shortstop to strike out 100 times in a season.
1940-Chet Ross of the Boston Braves set a rookie record when he fanned 127 times.
1949-The last season in which neither league had a player who struck out 100 times.
1958-Harry Anderson of the Phillies topped the National League with 95 strikeouts, the last league leader to fan less than 100 times.
1963-John Bateman of the Houston Colt .45's became the first catcher to fan more than 100 times.
1966-Mickey Mantle of the Yankees became the first player to fan 1500 times.
1966-George Scott of the Boston Red Sox set an American League rookie record when he struck out 152 times.
1978-In his 11th season Bobby Bonds of the Texas Rangers struck out for the 1500th time, the quickest anyone has reached 1500 K's.
1979-Lou Brock retired with 1730 strike outs and only 149 home runs, further proof that it isn't only sluggers that fall prey to the K.
1983-Reggie Jackson of the Angels became the first player to strikeout 2000 times.
1984-Jaun Samuel of the Phillies fanned 168 times, setting an all-time rookie record.
1986-Pete Incaviglia of the Rangers fanned 185 ties to set both an all-time rookie record and American League record, Jose Canseco of the A's (175) and Danny Tartabull of the Mariners (157) also topped George Scott's old AL rookie mark.
1987-Rob Deer of the Brewers K'd 186 times to set a new American League Record.
2004-Adam Dunn of the Reds smashes the previous record and K's 195 times.
